logo journey
Each time I start a new project I approach with a beginners mind and over time a seasoned competence pulls me through. Yet there are always surprises. If you care about what you make, you would be a fool to ignore the importance of rest and patience as integral parts of the design process. Both serve to assist in realising quality outcomes through the space to dream, consider and conjur the magical dimension that is contained within all things great.
Having something tangible is a powerful checkpoint in a design journey. I started with the design for a printed label, this would enable the t-shirt samples to be ordered. I then moved on to the website but found myself unsatisfied with how this design would sit on the header, positionally and proportionally it didn’t work at all.
I knew I needed to develop some other versions. I knew I needed to develop the branding.
I have put the work in with graphic design through employment, study and a genuine curiosity about modes of visual communication. There are, however, people I know working in agencies who work with big multinational clients.
Why does this matter?
Well, I tend to work in isolation whereas agencies are working as a collection of people, a team so I would say the major benefit that people working in agencies have is access to peer shared knowledge.
I asked someone close to me who works for an agency, about branding. I was curious to know if there was new software or new systems that they used to streamline the process. I was reminded that, regardless of technology, the principles within the design process remain the same. I did however, receive a nice reminder to consider all possible scenarios where a logotype will be, a reminder that I will need to produce different versions whilst considering how they relate with one another.
I look forward to sharing the finished outcomes with you all.
